Shadia has special training and experience working with couples and relationship dynamics. There are a variety of reasons a couple may seek counselling together. Relationships are ever-changing and shifting as they move through various seasons. They can be impacted by major life events such as enduring the loss of a loved one, a reproductive challenge, becoming new parents, children leaving the home, retirment, moving, infidelity, addiction, or a job loss. Very often there is no major event at all that brings on concerns within a relationship. Sometimes couples may feel as if they are growing apart or struggle to feel truly heard and valued.
Couples' counseling can improve communication, allowing each partner to feel heard, validated, and understood. The system of interactions within the relationship are explored and each partner can learn how to take part in a healthier "dance" with one another. Through the process of couples' counselling, partners can deepen their level of connection, intimacy, and trust. If something feels broken within the relationship, couples' therapy offers a chance to heal and make whole. Couples' counselling can also be relevent for prevention and maintaining a healthy relationship dynamic.

Reproductive Mental Health

Six years after entering the psychology field, Shadia founded a counselling clinic in the USA called Luna Counseling Center, specialising in Reproductive Mental Health. It became apparent to Shadia that there was an extensive need for emotional support in this area. Shadia's clinic worked with such issues as infertility, pregnancy and early infant loss, pregnancy after loss, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, high risk pregnancy, traumatic birth, and parenting.

Many do not know that there are common mental health conditions that can develop during and within the first year after pregnancy. For those who are experiencing a perintal mood or anxiety disorder, it can feel frightening and very isolating. Shadia is certified in assessing and treating such conditions.
We see happy smiling families, pregnant women, and cooing babies all around us. Most of us may not realize how many people are struggling with a reproductive challenge. It is still a taboo to talk about these painful and devastating experiences. Far more people than we realise encounter a reproductive issue. When we are one of those statistics, we may feel alone and helpless. When a couple experiences infertility, pregnancy loss, or another reproductive challenge, their hopes and dreams for their future become crushed. Shadia has special training and both professional and personal experience which allow her to walk with her clients through their suffering and help them begin to create meaning and hope in the darkest periods of their lives.

15-20% of women experience symtpoms of depression or anxiety during pregnancy or within the first year after giving birth.

1 in 5 pregnancies end in miscarriage and 1 in 200 end in stillbirth.

1  in 6 couples in Ireland experience infertility.
